US Tariff & Order/Preorder Updates (1)

Since the US tariff implementation last Friday, we have continued doing additional research now that more information is available. Based on our findings, our products should be exempt from tariffs under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) since they are manufactured in Canada (and meet very specific criteria).

Going forward we will be packing all exempted orders with additional documentation in the hopes that there will be border clearance without tariffs. This does not mean there will be zero fees (admin, taxes may still apply based on the carrier), but there should not be the additional 35%. We are very hopeful that this will be a smooth resolution. Our US customers make up over 70% of our business, so not only would this be a huge relief for us, but also a win for our American neighbours.

All standard non-US orders will continue to process and ship as normal. For non-preorders headed to the US (that have chosen Canada Post/USPS), Canada Post is currently not allowing shipping labels to be created unless tariffs are collected. We’re currently in talks with them to see how we can proceed given the USMCA exemption. We may resort to shipping with an alternate courier in the meantime (at our expense) to keep orders moving until we have a solution with them.

It’s important to note that this method of shipping exempted products is something we are trialling with you in real-time. As we use these documents we have created and send your packages, we encourage you to send us your feedback via email on how you received your order and whether you were charged any tariffs. There is still so much uncertainty in this situation, so feedback on this over the next few weeks will be greatly appreciated.

Early September Preorders
We anticipate to start shipping a few early September On Topper the World preorders by the end of this week, with the bulk of production and shipping to take place next week. It was very important to us that we had as much information as possible regarding the tariff changes ahead of shipping large batches of US orders. We appreciate your patience as we have continued to dig into this evolving situation.

We are hopeful that this added exemption documentation will carry across to preorders so you will also not be hit with the 35% tariff.

We know this has been a very strange and confusing time. We want to send a heartfelt thank you to all our customers, both in the US and outside.
