Important Update on Tariffs for our US Customers

Posted by Leigh Cavanaugh on

As many of you know, there have been ongoing discussions all year regarding tariffs between Canada and the United States. Until now, our type of products have been able to fall under the de minimis rule and remain tariff-free. However, as of August 29th, the de minimis rule for US-bound parcels is set to end for all countries (de minimis is the rule that allows parcels valued up to $800 USD to enter duty-free).

This means that all packages imported into the USA will be subject to tariffs, including our Clionadh Cosmetics packages from Canada. The end of the rule means that regardless of the value of the package, tariffs will still apply (a potential 25-35% sources cite).

It is our understanding that any parcel entering the USA prior to August 29th will be tariff-free and not subject to these fees.

Please keep this in mind when shopping on our website, as we have a 1-20 business day processing time entering our Anniversary Sale due to the influx of orders. We also have two preorder options for the On Topper Palette, both with shipping dates set for September.

Our team will do their best to get all packages from the upcoming sale out as quickly as possible to try and minimize the impact. During high volume periods, we post weekly shipping updates, so be sure to stay tuned to our Shop Updates page for those.

At this time we do not know exactly how everything will come into effect after August 29th, or if this will be a permanent change, but we are gathering information and speaking with our carriers and will continue to update here as we have more.

We appreciate your understanding as we navigate this. Please contact our Customer Care Team if you have any questions.

Updates

  1. August 23rd: Our team is actively working on a way that tariffs will be calculated, charged and collected on our site directly so our US customers do not have to worry about surprise payments come delivery time. More information will be shared next week.
  2. Sept 2nd: Since the US tariff implementation last Friday, we have continued doing additional research now that more information is available. Based on our findings, our products should be exempt from tariffs under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) since they are manufactured in Canada (and meet very specific criteria). Please see the official Shop Update for full details here.
  3. Sept 11th: Due to new customs requirements and high courier fees, we've temporarily paused shipping to the US. While our products remain tariff-exempt, unexpected processing fees and shipping delays are affecting order fulfillment. We're actively working on solutions, including alternative shipping methods, and will reach out directly to US customers with outstanding orders. For full details, please see the separate Shop Update post here.
