Canada Post May 2025 Strike & Labour Disruption

Posted by Leigh Cavanaugh on

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has officially issued Canada Post a notice to strike. With this, a strike may begin as early as Friday, May 23 at 12:00 am local time, unless both parties can reach an agreement before then.

Since the end of the last strike on December 20th, 2024, an extension to contract negotiations was given until May 22nd, 2025 which allowed service to resume in the interim. Unfortunately both parties have been unable to come to a resolution in that time, and another labour disruption is on the horizon as a result.

In order to avoid fulfillment issues, shipping delays and overburdening our team, we removed all Canada Post services from our website last week in anticipation. FedEx and DHL options remain available for nearly every destination we currently ship to. You can view options on our Shipping Information page.

Canada Post is Canada's federal and primary postal system across the country that many rely on, and these ongoing this labour stoppages continue to impact citizens, small businesses and other carriers (including cross-border shipping).

We will have more information on Friday, May 23rd, once we know whether CUPW will move forward with a strike, and if they do, what that will look like. We continue to monitor the situation and will update this post and on social media when more details become available. For now, Canada Post services remain suspended.

Like many of us, we are hoping for a speedy resolution and minimal repercussions. We appreciate your understanding as we once again navigate these uncertainties.

Updates

  1. May 23rd: As of today, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers issued their first strike action: a ban on overtime work for all union-represented employees. While this action means that Canada Post remains operational, that could change at any time. Given the continued uncertainty, Canada Post shipping options will remain off of our website for the time being.
  2. June 18th: After nearly a month, Canada Post and the CUPW continue to negotiate with no resolution. Last week, Canada's Minister of Jobs and Families ordered the CUPW to vote on Canada Post's final offer to the union, results have yet to be announced. While a labour stoppage can still possibly occur, after a month of uninterrupted service we decided to reimplement Canada Post services for the time being. Please be mindful of this if selecting Canada Post as the shipper. Thank you for your understanding, please contact us if you have any questions.
  3. July 15th: Negotiations between Canada Post and the CUPW continue. Shipping services continue to operate and are unaffected at this time. As major updates become available, we will continue to update this post.
